On March 2, two more Californians moved to Oregon.  Charlotte and Flash came on the New Leash On Life transport.  This transport service is the passion of Jane and Mark Gilbert, the owners of Edgewater Furniture in Eugene.  These dedicated people have transported over 4500 dogs from overcrowded facilities in California to rescue groups in Oregon and Washington.  To learn more about the New Leash On Life transport check out these links:
These two dogs are the first in an effort to find more small dogs for Oregon Coast homes.   They come from a high-kill shelter and were at risk for euthanasia, if they were not adopted or transported out. There is a large demand on the Oregon Coast for small dogs but few come into our shelter.  Consequently, the people who want to adopt from us often look out of town, or buy pets from a backyard breeder or shop online.
Charlotte and Flash are in a foster home until they find their forever homes.  More dogs could be saved if we had more foster homes.  Foster applications and guidelines are on our web site or available at our shelter.
