Why It’s Important to Vaccinate Your Pet

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to keep your pet healthy and safe. They protect not only your pet but also your family and community by preventing the spread of dangerous diseases. Keeping your pet up to date on vaccines ensures a longer, healthier life.

Vaccines for your dog

Four key vaccines every dog should receive are Rabies, Bordetella, DHPP, and Leptospirosis (Lepto).

Rabies: A fatal virus that affects the brain and nervous system. It can be transmitted to humans and other animals through bites or saliva. Vaccination is required by law in most areas.

Bordetella: Also called kennel cough, this is highly contagious and spreads quickly in places like boarding facilities and dog parks. Vaccination helps reduce outbreaks.

DHPP: A combination vaccine that protects against Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus, which are serious illnesses that can cause respiratory, liver, and intestinal problems.

Leptospirosis (Lepto): A bacterial disease spread through contaminated water or soil. It can damage kidneys and liver and can also infect humans.

Vaccines for Your Cat

Vaccines protect cats from life-threatening diseases and help safeguard households. Even indoor cats need protection, as viruses can spread through open windows, other pets, or brief outdoor exposure. Two essential vaccines are Rabies and FVRCP.

Rabies: A fatal virus that attacks the nervous system. It can spread to humans and other animals through bites or saliva. Vaccination is legally required in most states.

FVRCP: A core vaccine that protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (respiratory illness), Calicivirus (mouth ulcers, pneumonia), and Panleukopenia (a highly contagious, often fatal immune disease).
