We may enjoy the summer heat, but it can be dangerous for our pets, even in our coastal climate. Make sure water and shade are always available. Limit exercise, especially for short-nosed dogs. Dogs don’t sweat like we do, so fans won’t offer much relief. Never leave pets unattended in a car, even for a brief errand. Even leaving windows open in some shade doesn’t guarantee safety. Hundreds of pets die from car-related heat stroke each year. To protect your furry friends, leave them at home or travel with another adult who can stay in the car and keep the A/C running. Keep safe in the summer heat: they are counting on you!
